Whole-family support

This intervention is about providing support to the families of young carers to ensure that children and young people are protected from inappropriate caring roles.

Depending on the needs and wishes of local carers, the methods for delivering Whole-Family Support can include:
 
  • family mediation and Family Group Conferencing
  • parenting support
  • family activities
  • partnerships between children services and adult services
  • whole-family assessments and care planning.
 
This is not a prescriptive list of the services required for each area, but the practice examples can be used to inspire ideas about creative and inventive ways to meet the outcomes of the National Carers’ Strategy.
